Oates Ends

Oates Ends was born in 2000 when the family made a red blend in the shed on the farm to share with friends and family. The grapes used came from the ends of the rows that the machine harvester didn’t pick, hence the name. Picked from various blocks and varieties around the region and added to the ferment until sufficient volume for a barrel or two, each vintage blend was unique.

Fast forward more than a decade and winemaker Cath decided it was time to make wines to capture the evident quality of the vineyard that the family planted in 1999 and Oates Ends was reborn.

Drawing on the combined experience of their respective careers with wine and vineyards, a shared love of wine and a healthy dose of sibling rivraly, Oates Ends is a reflection of their individual philosophies, from a great piece of earth in a very special part of the world.

  • Oates Ends Tempranillo 2016

    Sold By: Oates Ends

Our Tempranillo is a vibrant, ripe berry fruited wine with loads of fresh strawberry flavour. Harvested from the Tempranillo block Russ planted several years ago to try the new variety, further plantings have occurred due to the popularity of this new variety with local winemakers grown in the Margaret River climate and soils. Harvested in the cool of the night to retain maximum fruit aromas and flavours the Tempranillo has a short, warm fermentation followed by pressing to conditioned french oak barriqes for maturation for 9 months to ensure the oak does overwhelm the inherent fruitiness of the variety. Released ready to drink the Tempranillo is a fantastic match for grilled meats, pizza and Italian food.

  • Oates Ends Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

    Sold By: Oates Ends

Our 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon shows great Margaret River typicity of cassis flavours sympathetically supported by extended ageing over 18 months in french oak barriques and puncheons. With the structure to reward extended ageing in your cellar it also has the freshness and complexity to provide immediate enjoyment. Hand harvested from the best Cabernet Sauvignon block at the Wilagri vineyard the fruit is gently destemed and sorted before being hand plunged for several weeks, followed by a further extended maceration time to polish the tannin structure before oak ageing. Following barrel selection and blending the wine is bottled without filtration to preserve freshness and fruit.

  • Oates Ends Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2017

    Sold By: Oates Ends

Five small parcels were hand harvested over two weeks to achieve balance and complexity. The grapes were crushed and allowed several hours of skin contact before direct pressing into 1 year old French oak barriques then allowed to naturally begin fermentation. Once fermentation was finished to dryness the wine spent 10 months resting in barrel on the fermentation lees with no sulphur added, to give softness and creaminess to the texture. Before bottling the barrels were blended with a small portion of wine that had been fermented cool in stainless steel tanks.
